Discussion Questions

Wings of Promise Alaskan Skies Series, Book 2

1. New love is exhilarating. It’s easy to fall in love, but staying in love is another matter. What were some of the obstacles Paul and Kate faced? Do you think they were realistic about what their relationship would look like?

2. First dates are fun. On New Year’s Eve Paul and Kate spent a romantic evening at the homestead star gazing and talking about their future. Do you remember your most romantic date? Why does it stand out above the others? And if you could go on the “perfect” date, what would it look like?

3. Paul blames himself over his wife and son’s death, but he also blames God. Why do you think he blames God and what can he do to forgive himself and God?

4. Kate knew Paul was keeping a secret from her about his past. If you were her, how would you respond to that kind of situation? Would you patiently allow the relationship to go on and wait or would you need an answer before you could move forward? How important do you think transparency is in a relationship?

5. When Kate was fired from the airfield and then is asked to return, after the other pilots threatened to quit, she nearly lets her pride keep her from accepting the offer. What do you think she should have done? Is pride a good or bad quality? Can it be both good and bad?

6. How did you feel about Paul when he decided to end his relationship with Kate because he was afraid she’d be killed in an accident. Did you empathize with him or were you frustrated? What do you think would have been a better solution?

7. When two of Paul’s dogs came home injured by a bear, Paul sets out to find Buck. By doing so he puts his own life in danger. Have you ever felt that strongly about a pet? Tell the group a little about a special experience between you and a beloved pet.

8. Kate seemed to jump into a relationship with Mike very quickly after breaking up with Paul. She seems independent and not the type to need a man, so why do you think she was so quick to move on to someone else? Or maybe it wasn’t too soon?

9. How did you feel when Kate decided to give up flying and return to Yakima? Do you think she had good reason or was she giving up too easily? If you were her closest friend how would you have advised her?

10. Kate is afraid to meet with the Gibson’s but realizes that some things in life must be faced head on. The meeting between Kate and the Gibson’s, though difficult, freed Kate from years of anguish. God means for us to resolve our conflicts with others (in love) in order to restore relationships. Have you ever had to confront someone you were in conflict with? What was the result?

11. I love the scene at Rim Rock Lake when Kate finally understands what God wants for her life. Have you ever had an epiphany, a moment when your eyes were opened to truth? What came of it? Can you share with the group?

12. When Kate returns to Alaska, she immediately takes a dangerous run and actually risks her life to save men she barely knows. Why do you think she did that?

13. Paul and Kate finally surrender to their love for each other. However, there are issues between them that still need to be resolved. How do you think they can best settle them? What do you hope to see in their future?
