From the moment he is born, laughing instead of crying like other babies, Júbilo has a special talent for spreading joy. No one can resist his charm and good humor, and his very presence seems to ease tension and encourage harmony in everyone around him. But Júbilo has another, more mysterious gift: he can hear the sand dunes singing; he can understand the whispers of insects; he can decipher what is in people's hearts, even when they cannot.

Harnessing these remarkable powers, Júbilo becomes an interpreter, first for the warring factions within his own family, and later as a telegraph operator, often translating words of spite or confusion into words of respect and love, quietly spreading peace.

But now the telegraph lies abandoned, obsolete as a form of communication in the electronic age, and Júbilo lies on his deathbed, mute, blind, and estranged from his beloved wife, Lucha, who refuses to speak to him. A secret tragedy has torn apart their sensuous and loving marriage, and only their daughter, imitating what she has learned from her father about interpreting the truth of the heart, can bring reconciliation to her parents before it is too late.
