Frances de Pontes Peebles was born in Pernambuco, Brazil. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she has received several awards, including Brazil’s Sacatar Artist’s Fellowship and the Michener-Copernicus Society of America Award.
