Author Biography

Lookin Back Texas is Leanna Ellis’s second contemporary fiction novel with B&H Publishing Group. Writing under her maiden name of Leanna Wilson, she sold 1.3 million romance books and won Readers’ Choice and Romance Writers of America Golden Heart awards along the way. Never a tawdry romance writer (her books included Bachelor Blues and His Tomboy Bride), she still found herself growing spiritually after her children were born. Soon, Leanna decided she wanted to change course and base her work in the Christian publishing industry.

Author Interview

Q: Why do you write the kind of books you do?

A: I write because I have to. It’s just a part of who I am. I also write because God wants me to. I offered to give up writing at one time, but I’m so glad God didn’t want me to. I write the kind of books I do because that’s what comes to me.

Q: Besides when you came to know the Lord, what is the happiest day in your life?

A: Marrying my true-life hero hubby and having my kids are definitely the happiest days of my life.

Q: How has being published changed your life?

A: Publishing has challenged me in ways I never wanted or imagined being challenged. It has forced me to confront my shyness. It’s forced me to face my many inadequacies and fears. That all sounds terrible, doesn’t it? But actually it’s been a huge blessing to both me and my family.

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: A non-fiction book about the moon landing.

Q: What is your current work in progress?

A: I’m doing the line edits of Ruby’s Slippers.

Q: What would be your dream vacation?

A: Anywhere with my hubby and kids, plus my sister who often travels with us. Not sure I can choose … the coolness of the mountains, floating in the Pacific Ocean and swimming with the turtles off Richardson Beach on the island of Hawaii, going to a Broadway show, walking around Scotland … and the list goes on and on and on.

Q: How do you choose your settings for each book?

A: They often choose me. For Lookin’ Back, Texas, I originally chose west Texas. But Luckenbach presented itself midway through the book and just seemed the perfect locale.

Q: If you could spend an evening with one person who is currently alive, who would it be and why?

A: My hubby. Our lives are so busy that carving out time for just us is difficult. But well worth it!

Q: What are your hobbies, besides writing and reading?

A: Usually whatever my kids’ interests are at the moment.

Q: What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?

A: I am my most difficult writing obstacle. To over come me, I get on my knees daily.

Q: What advice would you give to a beginning author?

A: Write. Write. Write. That sounds trite, but it is so true. Nothing but putting words to paper will teach you about writing.

Q: Tell us about the featured book.

A: Lookin’ Back, Texas! I’m very excited about this book…

A devoted wife and mother must return to her hometown of Luckenbach, Texas to help her mother plan her father’s funeral. Trouble is – he isn’t dead! And neither are the secrets she buried there years ago.

Lookin’ Back, Texas was a lot of fun to write. With such quirky characters, I never quite knew what they’d do. But it was also challenging merging humor with the very serious subject matter. I’ve had so many good responses from the book already that I hope I was able to accomplish what I set out to do.
