Author Biography

Anthony Flacco began his writing career shortly after receiving his B.F.A from Southwest Missouri University and moving to Chicago.  He was hired as a staff writer at the Body Politic Theatre and wrote scripts and music for nearly seven years whole also freelancing as an Equity actor.  His contributions include musical plays in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

He was selected to be in the class of 1990 for the highly prestigious American Film Institute fellowship and received his MFA in Screenwriting there.  He was the recipient of the AFI Paramount Fellowship Award for his script, The Frog's Legacy.  He was then selected out of 2,000 entrants as a winner of The Walt Disney Studios Screenwriting Fellowship, and spent a year writing for the Touchstone Pictures division.

In 1995, Anthony's first book, A Checklist for Murder, was acquired by Dell Books as a mass market paperback and sold over 50,000 copies.  His adaptation of the book as a script was sold to NBC Studios for a movie of the week.  He later wrote a two true-crime documentary for the Discovery Channel and his writing was featured on a one-hour episode of The Prosecutors.

In 2002, Anthony served as a national judge for the Illinois Arts Council, writing individual evaluations for over 100 screenplays for their 2003 Writing Awards.  Anthony is nearly finished with his longest running project, the historical novel, Tesla's Best Secret.  His screenplay version was a finalist in the Alfred Sloan Fellowship for Sundance in 2003 and the extended short story version was also a finalist in the L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future Contest for short stories.

In September of 2005, St. Martin's Press published Anthony's book Tiny Dancer, which was picked by Reader's Digest as their Editor's Choice one month prior to the book's formal release.  His article on the book's story was featured in their August, 2005 edition, with twelve million copies printed internationally in seven languages.

In addition to his own writing, Anthony has served as a freelance editor for books that have recently sold to Hay House, Vanderwyck and Burnham and Rodale Press.  Anthony is a member of the Writers Guild, a member of the WGA Film Society, and is the creator and former Director of the AFI Alumni Networking Workshop.  He lives in Los Angeles, where he loves to spend his spare time hiking and running the nearby trails of the Santa Monica Mountains.
