Francine Prose grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and was educated at Harvard. She is the author of nine highly praised novels, including Household Saints and Primitive People, and two collection of short stories. She has received a Guggenheim fellowship, a Fulbright grant, and a Pushcart Prize, among other awards and has taught at Harvard, Sarah Lawrence, the Breadloaf Writer's Conference, and the Iowa Writer's Workshop.
Prose's feature stories have appeared in many major newspapers and magazines, and she reviews books regularly for The New York Times Book Review and the Washington Post. She has also written the screenplay for an upcoming film on the life of singer Janis Joplin.
Francine Prose has said "I love my characters. I really do love my characters, but I feel that I want to take a very hard look at them. I should say, I don't find them guilty of anything that I'm not guilty of myself." Prose lives in New York City with her husband and their two sons.
